Buddy
Miller - Universal United House Of Prayers (New-West Records)
If you ever have a chance to talk to Buddy Miller you'll find
out several things about him. You'll find him to be a kind, thoughtful,
talented and spiritual man. After a careful listen to his new
solo release, The Universal House Of Prayer, he reveals these
same characteristics.
The CD opens with a powerful, soulful version of Mark Heard's
-Worry Too Much-, then flows into
an old-timey Louvin Brothers track, -There's a Higher Power-.
The third track, -Shelter Me- is a bluesy
gospel song, written by Buddy and his wife Julie. Just when you
think that you have figured out this CD,
you realize that you're listening to a top-notch gospel album
worthy of being nominated for a Grammy (which it was).
Then,
Buddy turns the tables on you, by recreating a gorgeous rendition
of Bob Dylan's -With God on Our Side.
Dylan wrote this during the post Cuban Missile Crisis days. A
song written four decades ago and still relevant today. A message
of peace, love and Christianity flows through this disc, along
with a driving tent revival backbeat.
